Case study

Grindley Hill Multi-Storey Car Park

Client: University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust

Site: Royal Stoke Hospital

Main Contractor: IHP (Integrated Health Projects)

M&E Consultant: DSSR

Electrical Contractor: Chris Bowker Ltd

Royal Stoke Hospital opened its new £32 million 5 level MSCP on the 7th of May 2024. The state-of-the-art facility provides 1680 NHS staff car parking spaces including 84 electric car charging points. It allows staff the benefit of parking on site whilst also freeing up space in the hospital’s public car parks for patient and visitor use.

What We Did

The Trust’s decision to specify P4’s fully automatic self-test emergency lighting system was based on two objectives:

1. Provide a compliant life safety solution and safe environment for staff and users of the car park.

2. Make whole-life cost savings compared to manual test emergency lighting.

DSSR’s design included the P4 M-Web central controller and 391 emergency lights and emergency exit signs along with a GSM module to provide the Trusts maintenance team with remote access.

The new system is also integrated into the site-wide P4 Cloud platform providing the Trust with additional compliance reports and interactive graphical building layouts, effectively achieving the above objectives.

Following the completion of the Grindley Hill Car Park project, P4 and Chris Bowker Ltd moved on to the new AMRAU modular building project which is situated outside the main A&E entrance at Royal Stoke Hospital.
