Manufacture of T8 (2’, 4’ & 5’) fluorescent tubes will be banned 1st September 2023.
Other fluorescent lamp types including T5, T8 (other lengths) and compact fluorescent will cease production 1st February 2024.
It will not be possible to obtain replacements once current stocks have been exhausted.
Many of these fluorescent tube types are still in use in emergency lighting and exit sign applications.
Failure of an existing fluorescent tube with no possibility of replacement will render the emergency lighting non – compliant with BS5266. This Risks lives and opens the possibility of prosecution under 2005 Fire Safety Order.
Upgrading existing fluorescent fittings to LED technology via P4 replacement gear trays is the ideal solution and it ensures continued compliance as well as performance and environmental benefits.
