BS 5266 Part 1, updated on 31 October 2025, sets out good practice for the design, installation, and maintenance of emergency lighting in line with UK legislation. It supports compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Building Safety Act, and harmonised European Standards EN 1838 and EN 50172. The revision includes improved clarity on lighting performance, and stronger requirements for verification, documentation, and maintenance. This one hour presentation outlines the standard and highlights the key changes, helping those responsible ensure emergency lighting systems are compliant, effective, and suitable for safe evacuation.
